This Gala Concert will showcase 14 talented amateur pianists from the US and Canada, 25 years of age and older, performing piano concerto movements with the California Concerto Week orchestra.  

This concert is the culmination of an application selection process and a 3-day intensive weekend workshop of lessons, coaching and rehearsals.  Each selected pianist will have the opportunity to work with this year's distinguished piano faculty, Jon Nakamatsu and Igor Resnianski, and conducting faculty, Michael Giel and Joseph Ordaz.  

The afternoon concert repertoire will include*:

  • Bach D minor, 1st movement
  • Beethoven #5, 3rd movement
  • Chopin #1, 2nd movement
  • Grieg, 3rd movement
  • Mozart #20, 1st and 3rd movements
  • Mozart #23, 1st movement
  • Prokofiev #2, 1st movement
  • Rachmaninoff #2, 2nd movement
  • Saint-Saens #2, 1st movement

There is a free, open-to-the-public rehearsal on Saturday, January 13 from  9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with coaching by Igor Resnianski (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and Jon Nakamatsu (1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.).
