This Friday, 4/24 at 12:00 there will be an interactive Zoom presentation (details below) by Stanford doctoral students who will discuss their research projects along with insights/tips about opportunities and challenges of graduate work.  The dissertation topic should be highly relatable to students:
Topic "Swipe Left to Reject" Why Options That Survive Rejection Are More Attractive
Authors: Jen Park; Itamar Simonson (Stanford University)
[from Abstract]
Most options considered by decision-makers are rejected or not chosen, yet the manner in
which individuals pass on options-the strength of rejection-has not received much attention.
In social apps like Tinder, users ‘swipe left’ to make explicit rejections, while interviewers often
reject rather implicitly by looking at the next candidate. Despite the common use of rejection
strategies in everyday life, little research has examined how individuals make rejections and their
psychological consequences.
