Mission College in Santa Clara has partnered with a variety of South Bay musical entities to present a free musical celebration on Sunday, April 23 starting at 1 p.m.

The wide variety of acts will include Mission College’s classical symphony and chorus, Mission College’s Hip Hop and Swing dancers, a ballet performance as a part of the Mission College Dance Company, the Los Lupenos Juvenil Dancers from the Mexican Heritage Plaza, Santa Clara Vanguard’s drum and bugle corps and San Jose Jazz’ high school All-Stars.

Mission College’s hospitality management program will cater the event with student-prepared food and its newly minted food truck. Beverages will also be available.

With the occupants of the college’s Main Building moving to a new Student Engagement Center in January 2018, this is likely the final large event in the Main Building, which opened in 1979.

Mission College’s Symphony will headline the performances, beginning at 3 p.m. The Symphony will also be celebrating its 10th anniversary as a company. The concert will include Campbell resident and Bellarmine College Prep. student Ray Wyant, the winner of the Mission College Young Artist competition, who will perform a solo performance with his clarinet. Nancy Bloomer Deussen has specially commissioned a piece, “Forever in our Hearts” for the event.

The San Jose Jazz High School All-Stars is a regionally based education program with a large ensemble and combo. San Jose Jazz is the host of the highly successful Winter and Summer fests.

Santa Clara Vanguard is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017 and actually performed at Mission College’s Main Building grand opening celebration in September 1979. The internationally recognized group has been a six-time world drum and bugle corp champion.

Los Lupeños Juvenil is a youth ensemble of dancers from 10 to 15 years old, who perform Mexican folk dance in a  professional environment.  They come from all areas of the South Bay.
